Jump Rope Exercise



The jump rope exercise is a weight-bearing activity. It is good for your bone density. It may also improve your balance and coordination. You can find a video demonstration of this aerobic activity below.

Pros

  • You can do this activity almost anywhere as long as there is enough overhead room
  • It's inexpensive
  • You can watch TV or listen to music while doing this activity

Cons

  • This activity is strenuous. You may irritate your joints, hips and knees
  • It will challenge your balance and coordination
  • It can be boring

Tips

  • Stand on the center of the cord with your feet shoulder-width apart. The handles should be about 2 inches above your hips
  • You can hop with both feet at the same time or alternate your feet
  • You should start with just 30 to 60 seconds. You can then work your way up to doing 5 to 10 minutes or more of this activity
