Benefits Of The Overhead Press

This shoulder exercise strengthens the muscles that enable you to lift your arms. This dumbbell exercise helps you lift objects over your head, and is an excellent addition to any fitness routine.

Tips

  • Keep your back straight and your neck well aligned with your spine when doing this exercise
  • You can do this workout on an exercise bench, or a chair with good back support if needed
  • This workout can also be done standing if back support is not an issue

Workout Procedure

  1. While sitting or standing with your neck well aligned with your spine, hold the dumbbells next to your ears

  2. Keep your palms facing forward, and your elbows pointing down
  3. Breathe in
  4. As you breathe out, lift the dumbbells above your head
  5. As you breathe in, lower the dumbbells back to the starting position
  6. Do 8 to 12 repetitions
  7. Perform this workout 3 times a week, every other day
